The packager has linked up with Kensington to offer rates from BBR+1.69% for a 2-year self-cert tracker. The ‘no-overhang’ range is available to prime first-time-buyers, the employed and self-employed and for purchase and remortgage.

Sian Brown, Trustguard National Sales Manager, said: “There is a gigantic hole in the market where 90% LTV self-cert products used to be. Lenders have pulled out of this area in a big way leaving thousands of brokers’ clients high and dry. You can virtually count the competitive products on the fingers of one hand. This range is going to help a lot of intermediaries place their applications.”

Trustguard will be offering a two year option at 6.99% fixed and a three year one at 6.89% fixed. There is a completion fee of 1,999 which can be added to the loan above the maximum allowed LTV and there won’t be a higher lending charge. The maximum on offer will be 500,000.

Overpayments of up to 10% are allowed per year. Applicants should have no CCJs within the last three years, no arrears during the past 12 months, no defaults in the previous 3 years, no IVAs and must never have been a bankrupt. The reversion rate is BBR +2%.

Philip Collins, chairman of the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) will be the keynote speaker at the Association of Finance Brokers’ (AFB) annual dinner on 1st July 2008. It is to be held at the Drapers Hall, London. AFB’s chairman, The Rt Hon John Gummer, MP, will also be speaking.

The FSA’s (Financial Services Authority) effectiveness is being questioned by the IMLA (Intermediary Mortgage Lenders Association) after the FSA published it’s 2nd stage of the Mortgage Effectiveness Review.

Mr Peter Williams, the Executive Director of the IMLA was quoted as saying “Whilst welcoming the second stage of the Mortgage Effectiveness Review the findings can hardly be described as revolutionary. It’s common knowledge that the vast majority of sub prime mortgages are handled by intermediaries which is correct because they are in the best overall position to judge each individual case on it’s merits. It’s not really news that most borrowers rely on their Broker’s professionalism and expertise.”

“Although the findings in general are pretty salutary for the Financial Services Authority in terms of the MCOB, This study does throw into question the how effective the current regime really is and how much it’s over-engineered. We’re hoping that these findings will be fully considered when the MCOB review is fully done.
