The 3 Different Allergic Reactions In Dogs

Allergic reactions in dogs are hard to control and are usually chronic in nature. This is why the right diagnosis and therapy has to be started early to minimize the allergic reaction. The most common symptom for allergic reaction in dogs is excessive itching, or pruritis. It is the high strung dogs that tend to itch more than placid dogs while chewing, licking and rubbing of the skin are all manifestations of pruritis.

The common areas on the dog’s body that are the hardest hit for pruritis are its face, feet and armpit. However, due to some extent of excessive pruritis, it might cover the whole body of the animal. Scratching is normal for them and sometimes not a sign of any irregularities on their skin. But when tiny blood spots appear, it’s already a sign of an allergic reaction. The reason for this is, flea dirt comprises more of blood and they usually appear as small blood spots in any place that they are left behind.

There are basically three types of allergic reactions in dogs where the dog may suffer from one of these reactions or a combination of all three conditions. The dog may have a food allergy where it is allergic to ingredients or preservatives found in food. The most common food allergens for dogs are beef, wheat, dairy products, lamb and poultry products. Even premium dog foods tend to contain these products.

For some dog owners, the best way to stop allergic reactions is to immediately “haul” their pets off to a pet store or a veterinarian’s clinic. Usually, the people running the establishment would recommend some of their dog food to stop these allergic reactions thinking that this is the best way to stop excessive scratching or biting. However, they have to bear in mind that food allergies are the least cause of allergic problems in dogs.

As with the case of flea allergy dermatitis, the second type, the usual culprits are the allergens found in the saliva of a biting flea in a dog’s body. What fleas usually do is to insert a coagulant through the saliva to prevent clotting to make the blood flow constant and smooth thus induces an allergic reaction.

However, because of the intensive research and never-ending “crusade” to discover a cure for allergic reactions in dogs, many treatments were administered thus diminishing the occurrence of flea allergy dermatitis.

Allergic inhaled dermatitis or atopy is the third type of allergic reactions. In this allergic reaction the dog on its exposure to an allergen has the tendency to produce IgE antibodies.

Allergic reactions will then be evident when there is a re-exposure to the same allergen. Common causes are usually pollen, grasses, animal wastes or animal dander, molds, mites, house dust and feathers which can be either pass through inhalation or through or in-between the pads of its paws.

How To Fail Miserably At Golf And Still Have A Good Time

If you have heard of the name Jack Nicklaus then you’ll probably know something about golf. I play golf, well, more accurately I occasionally hit a small white ball with a big stick, and sometimes the ball goes in the right direction, and sometimes it doesn’t. The difference between Jack Nicklaus and myself is that he hits the ball more often, and it tends to go where he intends it to more often than me. Oh, and of course, he’s been voted Golfer of the Millennium, and I’m still waiting to hear.

One of the things that Jack is well known for, besides his expertise at playing the game, is his expertise at designing courses as well. All across the world there are golf courses that have his name on them as the designer, and they’re popular not just because of his name, but because they are so well planned to provide a broad, challenging and exciting game of golf for both the professional and the amateur alike. I just discovered recently that there is one place in Spain where an amazing nine courses have been designed by him, and all located together. It’s one of those overseas property resorts, aimed primarily at golfers. With 162 tees to start from, that sounds like a few lost balls for me, and a wonderful experience for anyone who knows their four iron from their putter.

I have some neighbours that live near me, as neighbours tend to do, and they seem to live in Spain more than they do here. I can understand that - they always seem to come back happy and tanned, and it makes me wonder why I don’t do the same thing. When I look out of my window at rows of other houses all soaked with cold rain and bathed in grey gloom the idea of moving to a sunny resort like Spain does have its appeal, but then, it always seems to be other people that actually get on and do these sorts of things. For me though, what really caught my attention was the fact that some companies, like Polaris World that advertise on television, have made golf the real focal point.

The golf course near me recently got flooded. We have a torrent of rain for a couple of days and the whole place became a pond. It’s dried out now, but for weeks the whole place was damp and boggy, and a fairly unpleasant place to play. Golf isn’t traditionally a messy sport. If you want to come home caked with mud you either play rugby or take up mud wrestling. Golf is a nice clean sport. Not at my local course it hasn’t been - just walking around you get filthy, and if you end up digging up the rough or wandering from sandy bunker to grassy embankments you end up needing to throw your entire outfit in the wash after a round.

So that’s what made me think that moving to Spain sounds like a great idea. Imagine it - nine golf courses, endless sun, beautiful views, guaranteed good weather. Sounds like a dream. Maybe those neighbours of mine have got the right idea. But then there’s the hassle of moving over there and it all is so difficult, I wonder whether it’s worthwhile. But amazingly, I recently found out that many of these companies that deal with overseas property actually offer free trips over there to have a look and see what it would be like. They’ll even throw in a round of golf while you’re there. A free trip to Spain? A round of golf on a Jack Nicklaus course - it’s all sounding very tempting. I may even start to consider what I’d look like with a tan and a smile.

I’ve been aware for a long time that with property prices in this country on the rise that my house would be worth a fair sum. After I started taking these adverts more seriously, and checked out the prices, I couldn’t believe what I could get for my money over there. I could sell my house and buy two luxury apartments in Spain, or a fabulous villa. Straight away I started fantasizing about my own pool somehow, I am starting to like the idea of getting wet, but not due to the rain.

The properties being advertised look fantastic. Of course, almost anywhere looks fantastic if you shove it next to a glorious mountain range, make sure you have a deep blue ocean twinkling excitedly on the other side and bathe the whole lot in an absurd amount of sunshine, but then, that’s the actual location you can expect to live in if you take the plunge. It’s certainly very tempting, and the more I think about it, the more I start to picture myself there. I see myself waking up in the morning with the white cotton curtains fluttering gaily in the cool morning breeze as I dance towards the windows and look out across another world. I don’t tend to dance much in the morning; I sort of lurch about a bit and stagger in a confused daze, but somehow I see myself dancing in Spain. It’s funny how a little thing like sunshine and sea can change you.

I’m certainly very tempted to consider the idea of a free trip - after all, I have nothing to lose. I may even find that the more clement weather improves my golfing game. Perhaps I may even meet old Jack and challenge him to a round. The only thing that puts me off is the hassle, but then, it’s only once, and the satisfaction of having made it will be more than worth it. The adverts are certainly targeting this country a great deal, and it sounds as though they know what they’re doing. Like many people, I work from home which means that relocating means little more than moving all my gear. Except for my winter clothes; I won’t need them any more of course!
