The Secret of Success from Jim Rohn

According to Jim Rohn, a leading personal development expert, most people don’t succeed because of neglect.

So his secret of success is to not neglect. Right. Do the opposite. A quick trip to the thesaurus reveals that the antonym, or opposite, of neglect is the care for or to look after. Are there things in your life that you should look after that you have been neglecting?

Jim Rohn succeeded at an early age, 31. While most of his friends struggled, Jim Rohn became a millionaire. He says that he took care of what others neglected. He further says that it was early for him to do.

While his friends neglected to listen to successful people, Jim Rohn looked after this asked of his life.

Jim took are of setting goals.

While his friends neglected to read books to improve their thinking, Jim Rohn took care of his mind and his positive thinking by filling his mind with the motivational words of the book he carefully chose.

Do we have enough opportunities? Yes. Is there enough money for everybody to get their piece? Yes. Can everyone get an education? Yes. Are there enough jobs? Yes. Is there something out there that you would be good at? Of course.

Why don’t we succeed? We neglect.

Don’t neglect your life. Don’t neglect to surround yourself with worthwhile associates. Don’t neglect to set goals that ignite your passions and desires. Don’t neglect your attitude. Don’t neglect those around you.

The problem with neglect is that it affects us, well, negatively. We suffer. Not usually in a physical way, but maybe, if you neglect to exercise and eat right.

Your self-confidence will wane. Your faith in yourself and others will diminish. Where you once were positive and full of dreams and hope, you will have become negative, pessimistic, and cynical.

The only way to fight neglect is to do something. Act. As the old Nike saying goes, “Just Do It.” I say, “Do it now.”

When you do something, anything, you will rid yourself of neglect.

Parents’ Money Management Affects Children

July 12, 2008 · Filed Under Finance · Comment
by William Blake

Children are great imitators, learning by what they see other people, especially their parents, doing. Children also learn how to care for financial matters by observing what their parents do, so setting a good example will help them later on in life financially.

Children who spend money without considering what consequences it could bring are usually raised by parents that act the same way. It would not be wise to teach children that money is simply a means to an end. Instead, emphasize that money is important for physical necessities like food and shelter but is not the most important thing in life.

The respectful use of money will help ensure that money is always available when necessary. Money problems are the main cause of arguments for married couples, and parents with differing backgrounds will usually have even more difficulty seeing eye to eye financially. In order to prevent children from being affected by such issues, parents need to come to an accord on how they will care for money matters as a family.

Learning to save takes time even for parents. We didn’t all grow up with money-savvy parents. But now it’s time to break the cycle of overspending and debt. Parents can take a money management class or read a book on the subject. As they learn, so will the children. The information can be shared at family meetings.

If the family doesn’t have a financial plan, start one. Gathering the family together to do this is another way to include children in financial decisions. Being part of a family meeting shows children the role money plays in the home. Family meetings can be a place to voice any concerns about money and to find answers together.

My parents never had excess amounts of money while I was growing up, and I spent everything I made on stuff I wanted when I started working. Despite working hard, I spent my earnings in an effort to not feel like I was missing out on anything.

This carried over into my adult life and created problems when I got married and started a family. My parents didn’t do anything wrong, there just could have been a few more “right” things done. We never talked about money. It was a “grown-up” thing and children weren’t included. I went with what I perceived to be the truth when it came to money.

Teaching children about money is certainly preferable to simply leaving them alone to figure out financial things. Let children be part of conversations on big financial adjustments in the family so they know how things will be handled. This does not mean, however, that children have to know about every little decision you make regarding money.

Childrens view of money can definitely be affected by how their parents choose to handle it, for better or for worse. It is important to remember that kids are always watching, so let them see good financial practices that they can learn to imitate.

Plumbing Fixes are Sometimes Easy to Learn

July 12, 2008 · Filed Under Home and Family · Comment

You will find that there are going to be a lot of lessons that you learn by simply buying a home, and plumbing is one of them. If you are not a licensed plumber then you will not even want to think about doing anything more than using Draino. This does not mean that you are not capable of doing something good with the plumbing; however, it does leave a lot of room for error. Keep in mind that plumbers tend to be overpriced and you may end up finding that there are a lot of hidden fees like travel time and other things. You will want to make sure that you are at your rope’s end before you call a plumber, however, don’t try to be the super and fix it yourself. Call around and see who is good and who is worth your time. For the times where you have water all over the place and the house just seems crazy, you will want to shut off the water and then call someone close and ask who they prefer. This way you can get the quality workmanship without putting up with a lot of hassle.

If possible, you will want to compare shopping. Compare shopping will help you to get the best price, but not always the best work. You will want to make sure that you think about things like hourly rates and charges for mileage. You will want to make sure that you understand their rates and how much you feel comfortable with their charging methods. Keep in mind that some will charge by the minute, or simply by the hour. You will want to keep in mind that there are a lot of hidden fees too. Make sure that you ask them about how much all together you are looking for and then add ten percent. Can you live with that?

When it comes to plumbing it is hard to pick a price. You don’t really want to look at who is cheaper, because they may only give you a half-fast job and then you are stuck hiring another person. You will want to make sure that you call some of your friends and family members and ask who they use. Everyone has a plumber that they prefer and a plumber who they will go with if their first choice is too busy. Keep in mind that satisfaction is one of the most important things that you need to be concerned with.

Also, if possible, you will need to minimize your plumbing needs. Don’t just call for a backup on a drain, but call if the pipes are broken or some other big job. You will want to consider calling a plumber if you drop something down the drain of your sink and (hopefully the filter will catch it) or if something large is stuck in your toilet pipes (perhaps your son’s truck).

Keep in mind that plumbers tend to be overpriced and you may end up finding that there are a lot of hidden fees like travel time and other things. You will want to make sure that you are at your rope’s end before you call a plumber, however, don’t try to be the super and fix it yourself.

Installing Your Blinds

July 12, 2008 · Filed Under Home Improvement · Comment
by Maria Castronuevo

Although you may not have ever bought and installed blinds, do not worry, if you have chosen to buy some new blinds you can easily put them up yourself. All you need to be able to do is to take some measurements and use a hammer and screwdriver when installing them.

It is not overly difficult to install blinds no matter if you are male or female or young or old. The instructions are pretty basic and you will be amazed at how easy it really is.

It is essential that you have accurate measurements for the blinds that will be installed in your home. A proper fit both in height and width is very important for the operation of the blind and how it looks in your room. You don’t want to have window coverings that are too short or too long either. Now that you have all the correct measurements, it is time to go shopping for the blinds.

The installation process is the next step now that the blinds are home.

Before you start putting brackets up and creating holes in your walls, get a pencil. Now hold your blinds up at the exact spot that you want them to hang. Use the pencil to make a very light, very small mark on the wall where the brackets will go, on either side of the blinds. This will help guarantee that the brackets are installed in the right spot at the right height, so that your blinds look and fit perfect. Now get your hammer and screwdriver out, because these come into play during the next step.

Now attach the brackets to the wall where you have made your pencil marks. The brackets are normally installed using 4 small screws. Sometimes it is not easy to get the screws into the wall so just tap them gently with the hammer to get them started and then continue using the screwdriver. Ensure that the brackets are lined up with the marks on the wall so that they are far enough apart to hold the blinds. This may seem obvious, but in order for the blind to slide into the bracket the open side of the bracket must be facing front at the time of installation.

At this time you will be installing the blinds into the brackets. They should slide easily into the open ends of the brackets and they should also feel snug and secure. There is a small piece used to slide over the open side of the brackets that will lock the blinds in place and give your blinds a finished look.

Your brand new blinds are now installed and ready for you and your family to admire. Just think of how you installed them all by yourself and without any assistance from a professional.

Brilliant Rose Oil - Aromatherapy for the Mind, Body, and Spirit

July 12, 2008 · Filed Under Health and Fitness · Comment
by Tarah Cech

The Rose has been an enduring symbol of love and beauty throughout history. The flower itself is beautifully complex, with deep hues, luxuriant petals, and an Absolutely wonderful aroma. This same beauty is found in the aromatic oils made from Rose flowers. Not only is the smell sweet, rich and distinctive, but it so happens that Rose oil has the most diverse healing applications of any essential oil used in aromatherapy today. The oil is considered a supreme healer of both the body and soul, and it is very easy to use with basic natural healing techniques.

What a time for Rose it is! The oil of the deep red Rosa Damascena is considered the premier heart opening aromatic; can you think of something we need more of in this world? And even if you’re still just a little vain (just kidding!), Rose is one of the most active essential oils in beauty care — it helps us love more AND be more beautiful. Plus it’s anti-viral, antiseptic, and a stress-reliever, too. What’s so special about Rose oil? What is it, where do you get it and how do you use it? Let’s have a practical look at this profoundly useful therapeutic essential oil.

True are Rose essential oil is truly a remarkable liquid. A few drops of oil is actually the aromatic concentrate of thousands of roses; the yield by weight is on the order of one-to-5000. This means it takes on average 5000 pounds of roses to make 1 pound of true Rose oil. And the oil itself is not so simple; there are well over 200 identifiable natural chemicals that make up the oil of Rose. It is the number of Roses is needed to make a drop of essential oil that gives the oil its potency — and the number of natural chemicals within the oil that give it its great variety of their actions.

There are two distinct types of Rose oil in use today, distinguished by the distillation techniques from which they were made. Rose Absolute is the solvent extract of Rose petals — Roses are immersed in a solvent such as ethanol, which draws the aromatic oil out of the flower. The ethanol is then evaporated off, leaving the deep red colored aromatic concentrate behind. Rose absolute is most close to the natural Rose aroma, smelling like a fresh cut flower. Rose Otto is the steam distilled essential oil of Rose; because it is steam distilled Otto is considered true Rose ‘essential oil’. The most highly prized varieties of both oil are produced in Bulgaria, though other countries such as Turkey and Morocco also distill excellent Rose oils.

When looking at the oils’ the therapeutic applications, it is important to take into account the entire mind body/complex — rather than divorcing the two which is so often done in modern medicine. Rose essential oil is very active on a physiological level, however it is when its action on the emotions and spirit are taken into account that Rose really shines. Otto is a strong antiviral, being used by many folks for its efficacy in treating herpes and shingles. Despite its potency, it is gentle enough for undiluted application to the skin for this use. Rose oils are also profoundly effective tonics for the female reproductive system; they are said to enhance fertility and bring about health for the uterus and ovaries. For these needs, a dilute formula of 3% Rose oil can be massaged into the lower abdomen on a frequent basis.

The most common therapeutic application may be for healing the skin, as Rose extracts are found in many of the world’s finest cosmetics. Rose Otto can reduce inflammation, heal capillaries, hydrate and soften, and act as it an effective astringent and antiseptic. Including a 1% concentration in any skincare formula can vastly improve its beauty enhancing ability. Rose water (’leftover’ from the distillation process) is an excellent beauty care preparation unto itself. The water, called ‘Rose hydrosol’ is often used with a cotton ball as a cleansing tonic for the face.

The most important healing effect may be roses ability to open the heart. When the world around us seems exceptionally challenging, it is particularly important to keep our hearts open. Simply the aroma of either the absolute or the Otto can do this — our olfactory sense is intimately connected to the emotional center of our brain, and our brains and hearts talk to one another constantly. The aroma of the floral symbol of love just happens to signal to the system to unlock the heart chakra, making it easier for us to both give and receive love. Either oil (the Otto or the Absolute — you should investigate which one works best for you) can impart this effect. They may be dabbed on the heart area and wrists at full strength, or diluted in organic Jojoba oil to your desired strength and worn anywhere as a natural perfume (keep in mind Rose Absolute’s deep red color will leave this color on whatever it touches before it is absorbed). Many whom use the oil in this manner describe an uplifted sense in their emotions, and even more open and kind reactions from those around them.

Employing the healing properties of Rose oils is fun and easy to do. Both the Otto and Absolute are safe, and can be used undiluted whenever desired. They are both considered highly potent, and diluting them in a carrier oil will not reduce their efficacy however. A five to ten percent dilution is most often used for personal perfume, a one to three percent dilution as a massage oil, and a one to two dilution and beauty care preparations. Either oil is excellent for use in even the simplest of aromatherapy diffusers, by themselves or blended with other aromatics of your choice. There are many aromatherapy methods you can use; trust your instinct to find the best one for you.

Rose essential oil, and particularly Rose Otto has the potential to be very very healing, and even tranformational. It may be that this revered symbol of beauty and love is now offering us its incredible health-giving effects in its most concentrated and portable form. If Rose oil sound right for you, it’s encouraged that you give it a try — every little bit one can do to open their hearts and bring out their light will make the world a better place for everyone.

Visitors Health Insurance-The Basic Facts

July 12, 2008 · Filed Under Travel and Leisure · Comment
by C. Ray Sondeo

Visitors medical insurance is gaining wide popularity in recent times. The frequency of travel as well as the travelers is increasing. This in turn increases the number of possible deaths that might occur due to sudden illnesses or accidents during the international travel. Nowadays more and more people are traveling abroad.

The reason why people travel can be different for different people. For some it is just a sabbatical activity while for some others it is for some serious purposes. The risks involved during traveling have increased greatly. The travelers may encounter situations like war, terrorist attacks, etc, or they can even fall ill. Therefore for ensuring their safety by making provisions for facing these situations, travelers are seeking to visitor insurance.

Visitor’s medical insurance is similar to the ordinary insurance policy. You have to pay the premium which depends upon the insurance plan you choose. The insurance company will combine the premium taken from you, with the premium collected from others, and in this way it will form a pool of money.

The insurance company will utilize this money to pay for the claims made by the beneficiaries of the insurance plan during their foreign visit. Such type of travel insurance is also called as overseas visitor insurance and in the extended form it can cover medical expenses, injuries due to accidents, loss of belongings, delay or departure from the concerned country, loss of passport, etc.

You can make a visitor’s health insurance on behalf of another person. Thus you can make an insurance plan for your family members, friends, etc in their absence as well. Whenever you join any visitor’s insurance policy make sure that the insurance company is having a center in the country which you are about to visit. For example if you are about to visit Canada, it is wise that you join an insurance plan from a company which has center in Canada.

The reason for such an arrangement lies in the fact that a policy bought in the travel destination is easily acceptable in that land. For example, if you may have to undergo medical treatment in the foreign country, you would ask for claims from the insurance company.

At such times, the medical institutes in that country can get the dues easily settled from the company since it is probably know to them. These hospitals or clinics may be reluctant to accept policies from any foreign land.

The type of visitors health insurance you need depends on various factors like risk posed during a travel, frequency of travel, the country that will be visited, and any prevailing medical condition that you may be suffering from and so on. It is always recommended to inquire about the reputation of the company, before you purchase any kind of insurance policy.

The ideal time to draw such a visitors insurance policy is when the traveler has all the important documents in his or her hand. These documents may include the visa, passport, the airline tickets etc. If you are traveling to any of the countries identified as ‘high risk countries’, a visitors medical insurance is an absolute must for you.

The New Super Food - As Seen on Oprah

July 12, 2008 · Filed Under Health and Fitness · Comment
by Marcus C. Evans

Well, ever since Dr. Nicholas Perricone touted its benefits on Oprah, the Acai berry is not such a secret. However, if you somehow missed it, the Acai berry is a fruit which Dr. Perricone put at the very top of his list of 10 “super foods”. The research which has been done on the Acai backs this claim too. This berry is just the size of a grape but is jam-packed with nutrition and health benefits.

Let’s examine the case in more detail. The Acai palm (the letter c is pronounced as an s) is native to the Amazon region and has long been a popular part of Brazilian cuisine. The Acai has a lovely berry flavor, with a slight hint of chocolate in its aftertaste, and the Brazilians have used the juice and the pulp in blends, smoothies, sodas, ice creams and other drinks. It has also traditionally been served with tapioca or granola - either as a sweet or a savory. Although nutritionists have been aware of its value, the fact that the Acai is so perishable that it spoils within 24 hours of being picked has been a real deterrent for those people wanting to export it.

But now things have changed.

So what exactly are the health benefits of this fruit which have excited nutritional experts? To begin with, the Acai berry has 10 times the antioxidants of red grapes and twice the antioxidant content of blueberries. The effects of these compounds are more sustained than those found in other fruits too. The Acai contains a wealth of fatty acids, including oleic acid; which have been shown to reduce cholesterol levels. The University of Florida has conducted studies which have yielded data suggesting that the Acai berry also holds polyphenolics, compounds which can slow the spread of leukemia. In short, Acai berries are number one on the super foods list because they have anti-inflammatory properties, regulate metabolism, help the body burn fat, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, guard against heart disease and cancer, promote good digestion and even give you energy!

Eating the Acai berry or using it in a variety of dishes as do Brazilians has been impossible for most of the world until now. The berry is now being exported however, both as frozen pulp and Acai powder. The pulp is used in smoothies, among other things (you may have seen Acai smoothies on the menu at juice bars) but can be pricy. The powder, made by dehydrating and freeze-drying Acai pulp is cheaper and gives all of the same nutritional health benefits of the whole berry.

More accessible, though, is the Acai powder which results from the pulp being dehydrated and freeze-dried. The resulting powder is easier and cheaper to export and can be used to make pure Acai supplements that have all the nutritional benefits of the original fruit. That last point is worth stressing - the freeze-dried powder has all the health-giving properties of the berry itself.

The Acai berry is truly a nutritional wonder - and now it’s one everyone can enjoy the benefits of, whether you ever have the chance to go to Brazil or not!

Setting Limits on Children’s Spending

July 12, 2008 · Filed Under Finance · Comment
by William Blake

We live in an instant society. With the microwave oven, cash machines, and the Internet, whatever we want is at our fingertips in a matter of seconds. Children have learned to want everything right away. Setting limits on your children’s spending habits can curb the urge to be less than patient when it comes to money.

Children’s spending habits can be controlled by means of an allowance. Establishing a modest weekly allowance for children as soon as they grasp the concept of money will help them to understand the how useful money can be as well as how to respect it.

Children can earn money around the home by completing small jobs that aren’t a normal part of their chores. If kids want to buy something special, their creative minds will be able to invent some way to save up the money they need.

After deciding how much you will give your children for a household job, don’t change it. Allowing children to finish their work themselves and keeping the agreed on price will help them appreciate the true value of money. In order to do so, don’t help them complete their jobs or give them more money because they worked hard.

When kids want to buy something for themselves, don’t split the price with them. This will skew the children’s view of money since they’ll consider every dollar they have to be double when Mom and Dad are around. While helping children if they wind up short a dollar or two because of tax charges is fine, offering to pay half of everything they want will only encourage them to spend more than they should.

Adults can’t buy things they want without having the money on hand to do so. Children don’t always like this idea, but if they learn it early in life they will be more prepared to successfully manage their finances when they do start working later on.

Choose specific days throughout the month to go on shopping trips and stick to them. Since children tend to have access to quite bit of cash from allowance, holiday gifts, and birthday cards, they often want to spend it whenever possible. Arranging when shopping will be done helps control how much they spend.

In that time, your child will save more money. They already know the rules of shopping, but they will still try to get you to change the deal. Waiting until the appointed time teaches patience. It takes patience to save money and also discipline. They are learning both at the same time.

Children are cute, and they know how to manipulate a situation to get whatever it is they may want. But giving into them will not help them to develop beneficial financial habits. Instead, set reasonable limits on your children’s spending and watch them learn how to be responsible about their money.
