A visit to Melbourne is sure to entertain, amuse and give a great experience, because there’s so much to see and do in Victoria’s capital. Melbourne is very easy to explore, because it is laid out in a grid pattern that is compact, plus the city is basically flat. Not too many hard hills to tackle!

New visitors to Melbourne often begin their travels by hopping on the City Circle Tram. It travels around the outside of the main business and shopping area, giving you a good introduction to the places you might wish to visit later. Try walking initially, and if you follow the Golden Mile Trail, you’ll get to see many of Melbourne’s most well known historic sites.

If you have a bit more time, consider taking a half-day bus tour to see some of the inner suburbs. For example, the Marvellous Melbourne Tour goes to Port Melbourne, Albert Park and Carlton, while the sports lovers amongst you should check out the Melbourne Sports Tour, which will allow you to see why Melbourne claims to be Australia’s sporting capital.

There are many ways to see Melbourne, but for the more upscale visitor, a leisurely river cruise on the Yarra or a hot air balloon trip over the city are both wonderful ways to experience Victoria’s capital. If adventure flows in your veins, then you should seriously consider seeing Melbourne from the air, via a seaplane flight from Dog Scenic Flights or Melbourne Sea Planes. This is one awesome - and exciting - way to explore the city.

If you’re looking for a tour with a difference, Melbourne still has plenty to offer, including the Haunted Melbourne Ghost Tour - a walking tour that goes to several areas known for paranormal activity. Then, you can get a look at what the city was like in the past eras by going on either the Town Hall Tour or the Cemetery Tour. These are a lot of fun and you’ll hear all sorts of interesting stories about some of this city’s more popular historical personalities.

For the sweet tooths amongst you, you absolutely MUST try one of the famous chocolate tours of Melbourne, such as the Chocolate Indulgence Walk, which includes tastings from Melbourne’s best chocolate shops. This is also a great way to discover the great laneways and arcades of the city. For the foodies amongst you, consider combining 2 of Melbourne’s great loves - food and trams - into one tour, and try the Colonial Tramcar Restaurants tour.

If you’re a shopaholic, you’ll LOVE Melbourne’s Shopping Spree bus tour. It takes you down all the backstreets and hidden alleys, to visit the bargain factory and warehouse outlets that Melbourne is famous for.

The Australian Aborigines have a rich past in the Melbourne area before the early settlers arrived, and you can absorb the culture and history of this on the Aboriginal Heritage Walk. While on this tour, you’ll also get to see the world-famous Royal Botanic Gardens - well worth a visit.

While there is plenty to see in the city of Melbourne itself, if you’re a bit of an explorer, you might also like to consider a day trip out of the city and see some of Victoria’s best tourist spots. Places such as the Great Ocean Road, Philip Island, the Grampians National Park and the famous old gold mining towns of Ballarat and Bendigo will delight you. Also, wine lovers should definitely make plans to visit the Yarra Valley Wine region and enjoy the local drop.

The towns of Daylesford and Hepburn Springs are well worth a visit before you finish your trip to Melbourne. This area (just 90 mins from the city) has the highest concentration of mineral springs in the country, and you can relax in one of the MANY spa resorts in this area.

Hardwood lumber is absolutely vital in order for any woodworking shop to survive. Whenever you are making a product out of wood you not only need tools but you need the wood itself! Wood is extremely beautiful and it is also strong and will last for a very long time if treated correctly. The material which you use for your project will depend on the type of product that you are creating.

Different Types of Hardwood Lumber

Walnut is one very popular type of lumber, it is a very rich and dark wood which looks very beautiful. It’s a unique wood and is very distinctive. It’s surprising that the color of the wood will change depending on the country which it was grown in. Walnut is well suited to furniture making, in particular in grandfather clocks.

Oak is a beautiful and popular hardwood which is used in a number of places around the house. It can be used as flooring as well as making furniture. Oak is a very nice wood which is durable and works well in a number of situations. It is commonly seen in kitchen cabinets and new show homes.

Another popular tree is the yellow poplar, this tree grows in the East United states and is one of the tallest hardwood trees. It is much cheaper than oak and walnut however it is still very high quality. It is commonly used for toys, sporting goods, musical instruments and of course furniture. Poplar is a very easy wood to work with.

Beech can be grown in a number of different countries, it is commonly used for flooring products, furniture, baskets and boxes among other products. Beech is very easy to stain or paint as they take the color very well.

Hardwood plywood is able to give the look of expensive hard wood without having to spend a fortune. This uses a thin slice of hardwood which is glued onto cheaper board. This type of wood is commonly used in bookcases. Oak plywood for example gives the look of oak without the expense.

Where should I buy Lumber?

Lumber isn’t hard to buy, you can find it in any normal home improvement store. You could also take a trip to a specialist lumber store such as lumber liquidators or Carter Lumber. You may be unable to purchase specialist types of wood in some home improvement stores. You may have to order wood like walnut or oak from these places as it is fairly expensive.

You can also buy lumber from the internet. Many people don’t like the idea of buying wood online because of the postage. It can also be difficult to assess the quality of the wood that you are buying, however you don’t need to worry that much. In most cases the wood will be graded.

Floor Mats are a Great Way to Protect Floorings

Interlocking floor mats can be used to make any floor into a comfortable and soft surface. These mats are a really good way to turn your room into a child friendly play room where they are free to crawl around until their heart’s content. These mats are available in a number of different colors and designs, there are so many different designs that you are sure to be able to find one to suit your room.

The first time I noticed these fantastic floor coverings was when I was a therapist treating autistic children. Some parents I visited had the idea of using interlocking floor mats to create a nice space for their child to relax in while the therapy was being done. Interlocking floor mats really are a great idea!

These interlocking floor mats are even perfect for use in small homes, they can be put down and then taken up within a moment’s notice. If you have a basement then using interlocking floor mats may be a great way to make the concrete floor warmer and more comfortable. If your child enjoys music then there are music designs available, but there are also many other designs including fish and cars! You can even find them to match your existing window valances or curtains.

The first time I saw these mats I thought they were such a fantastic idea. They allow you to turn any area into a functional play room which is comfortable and warm. They’re even a pretty good toy to play with for a few minutes!

These floor coverings make it possible to encourage your child to do some exercise! Playing on the floor mats can be pretty good fun! My daughter loves to play with the floor tiles and will do pretty much anything so she can!

Autistic children are very changeable, not every day will be wonderful. Sometimes they will get upset no matter what you do, however the floor mats still provide a safe surface for them to have their tantrum. By softening your floor you are making quite a safe room, if you leave them on a concrete floor then you’re only asking for trouble!

Interlocking floor coverings also make the room much more beautiful, they add color and life into an otherwise dull space. As these mats are themed it also creates an interesting focal point. Not to mention them creating a safe and easy to clean surface for your child.

I immediately loved the idea of interlocking floor mats and so I got some for my own daughters play room. She can assemble them anyway she wants and make some very pretty interesting patterns. The whole thing is assembled like a jigsaw, so it’s great fun! I’m sure she will love playing on her floor for many years to come.
