Destination Orlando Florida: Theme Parks
I love theme parks. I have to, I live in Orlando, otherwise known as Theme Park Central. That’s why I know that, when you come to visit all the parks, you don’t have to restrict your dining to vending cart hot dogs. From something fast to gourmet dining, your options are varied and delicious.
If you’re in the mood for something fast, with food as American as, well, apple pie, you have to stop by Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom. Their chicken is delicious, and it is served with mashed potatoes that taste better than any mere root vegetable has a right to be.
Stop by Liberty Tree Tavern in Liberty Square for the pot roast or the turkey plate, and no matter how full you are, you must try the Butter Griddled Pound Cake. It is even more rich and delicious than it sounds. If you’re more in the mood for Italian, wander over to Tony’s Town Square on Main Street. The baked ziti alone is worth the trip.
For an additional taste of Hollywood while you’re wandering Hollywood Studios, go to the Brown Derby. They have a wide range on their menu, and you can gaze at the stars (so to speak). If you’re looking for something more mid western than coastal, then the 50’s Prime Time Cafe is where you want to head. And if you want to travel farther afield, the Italian at Mama Melrose’s Ristorante might be just what you’re traveling to find.
If you go to the Animal Kingdom, you have to try the Rainforest Cafe. The walls and ceiling are covered with foliage, and when it rains, the elephants, gorillas, and other animals all come to life. It is a bit more expensive than some other places you could eat, but watching your kids experience a rainforest when all they were expecting was a burger is priceless.
The vegetarians of your group will be ecstatic to find the Tusker House buffet, and you will find yourself sneaking bites of their spiced tofu. Epcot has gourmet food from around the world all collected in one park. Their restaurants are very busy due to this, though, and you should call ahead and see if you need reservations. Le Cellier in Canada is the place to go if you’re looking for steak. Personally, I think the best food in the park is the fish and chips at the Yorkshire County Fish Shop. Have one friend find you a seat while you wait in the line, and I promise all the waiting and effort will be worth it.
