Instead of having the same old clambake, think of having a super deluxe clambake which will surely make your guests happy as it comprises a variety of foods. Just buy some fresh shellfish, clams, live lobster, mussels, shrimp and if you want, some crabs. You can also consider having clam chowder or lobster bisque with corn on the cob and some roasted potatoes.

A truly authentic method of preparing a clambake is through an open fire in a pit along the coast. So how would you cook the clambake indoors? It’s pretty easy, for your super deluxe clambake at home, all the cooking will be done using indoor stove tops.

Just have a large stock pot on hand and you’re ready to go. Stock pots are available in various sizes and some even come with a basket and a steamer rack. Interesting Points About Chocolate

For ages, Belgian chocolate have been the best gifts for all celebrations. Any special occasion, from holidays to weddings to birthdays, is a welcome event to give and receive these gifts and many individuals across the world has given or received candys at some point in the past. The industry has become a profitable giant and earnings continue to grow each year.

Many individuals have a favourite type of Belgian chocolate because each company’s product tastes somewhat different. This is a result of the proprietary formulas that the producers use to create their different products. Because of the quantity of different ingredients that can be added to the base cocoa to create the many different flavors available, there are an infinite number of combinations that can be used to create a unique flavour to sell to the public. If a friend indicates a preference for a certain type of Belgian chocolate, that should be the kinds that is given to them. There is always a reason that a friend may select one variety over another and he or she may not enjoy the texture of a different type. To be certain that the recipient gets the greatest enjoyment out of the gift, it should be a type that they enjoy.

If the type of luxury chocolate that the person likes is a secret, then the individual should choose a variety that they themselves prefer. People that have a lot of similar interests may often have like tastes as well. While this is not always a fool-proof method of choosing the right gift, more often than not the person is satisfied with the choice and the thoughtfulness that went into selecting the gift.

The number of retailers that have luxury chocolate available is staggering to consider. A person can purchase some version of these items at almost any store that sells food, gifts, or specializes in sweets. Some retailers have very extensive selections that take up huge areas of their retailers, while other retailers have a limited selection located on several shelves to choose from.

One of the most popular places to purchase Belgian chocolate is stores that only sell sweet items such as chocolates and candies. These stores can generally be found in large shopping centres and small free standing stores in larger retail areas. The items available at these stores are generally more costly than those sold in other stores, but the quality is often better than what is available at other stores.

Some of the retailers that specialize in items such as luxury chocolate are branded with a single candy maker’s brand. These retailers only offer the varieties that were created in the company’s shop and will often have a wide of different items because that is what the organization focuses on. All of the items available at these retailers may have been created using the same chocolate formula, making the texture of the chocolate consistent for each of the items.

Another area where many persons choose to get luxury chocolate is mass merchandise retailers. These retailers will generally have a limited choice of items that range from fair to outstanding. Many of the persons that choose to get their products here enjoy the fact that they have a number of different products available covering a wide price range and the customer can choose which one has the quality and price that meets their needs.

Another reason why many individuals choose to obtain their Belgian chocolate from mass merchandisers is because it enables them to compare several other brands at the same time, compared to the single brands available at most stand alone stores. This allows them to buy types that they have never sampled before and experience them for a reasonable price. A large number of individuals find their favourite brand by experimenting with the different flavors available at mass merchandisers.

There are also many companies that will allow consumers to purchase luxury chocolate by mail, telephone, or internet website. Companies that sell their products in this way generally have a large and loyal client base that selects their products over other similar items. Using these retailers can be very simple when purchasing gifts for other persons because multiple orders can be sent to many recipients with the push of a button.

The Art of Collecting Wine Labels

Just about any wine has personalized wine bottle labels on their bottles. The reason being is that every vineyard and sometimes every vintage is going to have its own label. Many wine producers have been changing their labels based on what people have been saying about wanting updated labels that are easier to read. This means that the older labels are starting to become collector’s items and the older the label or the better the vintage the more value is going to be attached to the label.

If you have ever tried peeling a label you know it can be very difficult without tearing or ripping it. The best way to preserve a label is leave it on the bottle. This assures the label will stay intact.

For the collector, it is imperative that the items are close to their original state for them to be worth anything of value. Any damage to the piece can significantly reduce the value of your item. If there are labels that need to be removed, there are several different methods you can use to remove the glue. Heat is always a good way to loosen the glue if you use it carefully which will help the piece to maintain its value.

There are labels that are actually works of art and are collected because they are works of art. There are some vineyards that put the works of famous individuals on their labels. Some who commission work in order to be done for their label and it is these that are considered to be works of art and are considered to be valuable enough to be to be collect just for the artwork on the label.

These wine bottle labels are completely personalized because the whole label is a commissioned artwork, prized for its collect ability. Still, there are a number of considerations as you contemplate entering the world of collecting vintner labels.

For the label collector, it’s the old labels you’re going to want to check out. The most valuable labels you will find are the ones done freehand, the original labels that were made before they were mass produced or the ones from fine wines. When looking into any of the above mentioned labels you will find they are very valuable.

If you are looking to get into collecting personalized wine bottle labels consider doing some research into the types of vintages that are going to provide you with a true investment. It is a time consuming hobby and while interesting and definitely, a conversation piece does not have a huge following. This means that it is a good idea collect either highly desirable labels or simple collect based on your own preferences and collect just for the fun of it without considering the actual value that comes with the labels or the wine.

Foods That Boost Your Metabolic Rate

August 9, 2008 · Filed Under Food and Drink · Comment
by Alexa Bjorkin

Why is it that some foods that make you fat and others don’t? This because the foods that cause you to gain weight take very little energy to burn. They are processed almost immediately and usually stored in your body as fat. Foods that make you skinnier are usually foods are harder to digest and therefore speed up metabolism by using up more energy during the digestion.

The foods that speed up metabolism are classified as “negative calorie foods”. These foods do not have some mystical properties that erase the number of calories in your body (don’t I wish?) so the name can be a bit misleading.

What really happens is that these foods make your body work harder while digesting them. Foods like this already possess a lower amount of calories to begin with but are also full of fibrous materials that the body cannot easily break down, therefore it uses more energy.

What this means is that your body creates more energy to turn the food into fuel (burns more calories) than the total amount of calories in the food to begin with. Thus, there is a negative amount of calories; you’ve used enough energy to burn off the calories of the food you ate PLUS some! Your body then has to use stored fat to convert into energy to finish the digestion process. In turn, you speed up your metabolism.

Did I lose you? Here’s a specific example. We’ll keep it simple.

Say you eat a half of a grapefruit that contains 40 calories and it takes your body 90 calories to digest it. You have used all 40 of the grapefruit’s calories PLUS 50 calories from stored fat resulting in an overall calorie loss.

In reality, for most of us, it usually works just the opposite way. We consume a rich fudge brownie that contains 180 calories but our body on uses 80 calories to digest it. We have essentially GAINED 100 calories which will be stored as fat for later use. That’s not a healthy thing. Unless you are exercising on a regular basis to burn up those calories, they are going to just sit there around your waistline adding to your already pudgy midsection.

I have created a comprehensive list consisting of mostly fruits and vegetables, to help get you started with negative calorie foods that boost your metabolism. Incorporate these into your menu and you should start to see and feel some healthy changes in your body.

Salads are always a good choice. Create your own using lettuce, tomato, onion, carrots cucumber, broccoli, cauliflower and radish. Be sure not to load up on the salad dressing. You can add toppings like raisins or sunflower used in smaller quantities.

Steamed vegetables make a healthy side dish using foods like broccoli, green beans, spinach, zucchini, carrots, onion, cauliflower, cabbage and asparagus. You can add garlic if you choose.

A low fat fruit cup is a healthy dessert. Try using strawberries, cranberries, mango, orange, pineapple, raspberries, tangerine, papaya, grapefruit, cantaloupe, honeydew, apple slices, and watermelon.

Smoothies are always a welcome item. You can use any combination of the fruits above mixed with ice or low fat frozen yogurt. You can also use these fruits in their juice form however fresh-squeezed is healthier than juice from concentrate.

Bans on Smoking

August 5, 2008 · Filed Under Food and Drink · Comment
by Sara Mendez

Over 50% of states are covered by a smoking ban of some form according to en.wikipedia.org. The ban severity depends on the state. Some states the ban includes hotel rooms and others it includes restaurants and bars while other states smoking isn’t allowed anywhere. Since healthcare costs in America are completely out of control, many feel bans such as these have come at a good time. If anything the laws are only going to get more and more strict.

In 2005 Washington state voted to issue fines of $100.00 to smokers who light up within 25 feet of businesses such as theaters, restaurants and bars according to USAToday, Other states such as Indiana will not allow smoking even at bus stops or ATMs. In many other states healthcare workers are forbidden to smoke during the work day and must sign a contract agreeing to this rule before they are hired. If found in violation of the contract, employees are fired on the spot. Every school district has outlawed smoking on their property even for employees. Other states have taken their smoking bans to another level, in Iowa even smoking in your car anywhere on the grounds with get you a fine USAToday also reports. California, who has been a pioneer in the smoking ban, also became the first state to out law smoking on all of its beaches, These trends have no where to go but up mainly due to people raising awareness among the public.

In the past second hand smoke was just a minor annoyance. However it has become a major health concern. Research has shown there is cause for major concern, non-smokers, if exposed to second hand smoke, can develop many of the same health problems as smokers. This means, lung cancer, asthma and emphysema are a reality even if you have never smoked a cigarette. The public feels an obligation to keep non-smokers healthy largely due to rising healthcare costs and health problems.

Since California has been one of the major players in the smoking ban, they decided to take it one step further and set an example. Just when the public thought the ban couldn’t get any tougher, California added an amendment and included a ban on driving while smoking with children in the car. This law passed in 2007 making it one of the most drastic in the nation according to cigarettehouse.net. It outraged smokers who feel smoking in their own car is their business, however California’s govern and its lawmakers felt differently. Children should not be made to be exposed to second hand smoke.

Some feel by imposing smoking bans on the public, law makers are taking away a smokers right to choose what they do to their own body. While this maybe true, children and non-smokers are not given a choice at all when they are being exposed to second hand smoke. Smokers are still able to smoke in their homes and private property. They are only asked to respect the public who does not want to be around smoke.

Fifty years ago smoking in public places and job sites was widely accepted. It was considered a social thing and not thought of as a dirty habit. However after seeing the effects of smoking many have chose to quit. Banning smoking is replacing the smoking socialization factor of fifty years ago, the new trend is healthy and no one should expect this new trend to go anywhere any time soon.

Reasons For Vegetarianism

July 30, 2008 · Filed Under Food and Drink · Comment
by Jim John

Many people choose to live their life entirely without any animal products. They choose a vegetarian diet that will fill all of their nutritional needs and keep them healthy and strong. What are some of the reasons for vegetarianism that these people generally give for their lifestyle?

People who choose to be vegetarian usually cite the numerous health benefits of the diet as the reason for their choice. Commercially-raised livestock are pumped full of hormones and drugs, and outbreaks of e-coli contamination and mad cow disease happen all the time. You can avoid all of these problems just by making a simple choice not to eat meat products.

The vegetarian lifestyle is very healthy, and with a little planning can be just as nutritionally beneficial as a diet containing meat and animal products. Most people that eat meat just do so out of habit. They probably have never even considered cutting meat out of their diet and replacing it with other healthy and delicious foods instead. Everybody can and should weigh their options and choose the diet that works best for them. Many people find that vegetarianism fits that bill perfectly.

The processing of meat actually involves the senseless slaughter of thousands of animals. Even in this technologically advanced world, man’s cruelty to animals is nothing but terrible. That is why people opt for a far more moral and ethical vegetarian life. A number of people are still left in the dark about the system of production of meat. That’s why they don’t care. But once they really understand how it is exactly done, the terrible way it is, even the biggest fan of meat lovers would surely cringe to the stark realization and vow never to take another bite again.

Any true humanitarian or animal-lover cannot condone the awful treatment that animals are given just to provide us with food to eat. Vegetarians are people who choose to eat healthily and without being a part of the slaughtering of millions of animals for the production of meat each year.

In addition, many believe that human beings are not meant by design to eat meat. They believe that upon close examination of human teeth and internal digestive system, the conclusion would be that humans were built to be herbivores, not carnivores.

The environment is another reason that is given for being a vegetarian. With all the worry and concern over global warming it is amazing that more people have not become aware of the environmental problem that is created by steer farms in the world. The production of meat involves the raising of millions of cattle that are bred for this purpose specifically. Cattle are responsible for more carbon released into the atmosphere than any other carbon releasing entity. If there is truly a need to protect the world from the effects of global warming then living a vegetarian lifestyle is the most effective thing one person can do to help the environment.

What About Herbal Weight Loss Aids

July 24, 2008 · Filed Under Food and Drink · Comment
by Karen Brown

To make weight drop more quickly, many people in the US follow the latest fad in taking herbal weight loss aids. Even if they are claimed to be safe, you should seek the advice of your doctor before selecting anything that you need to ingest. The majority of herbal pills on the market have not been proven to be effective and safe and are not tested by the FDA.

There are a lot of different herbal supplements currently available, all claiming to be weight loss aids. Due diligence is required and you must read what ingredients are in the supplements you are taking and understand their function. Many are unregulated and so are not held to strict medical standards, thus opening the debate on their very legality.

Most of the weight loss aids that are currently on the market are not composed of just one ingredient, but rather are made of many. It is vital for you as the consumer to be aware of each ingredient and how it may affect you, as well as how the ingredients may interact with other medication you may be taking.

Taking weight loss aids carries its own risks, since there are generally no easy solutions to losing weight. There can be unknown side effects to these weight loss aids. Since they are neither tested nor regulated, there is no way to determine their efficacy. In addition to this problem, each manufacturer may vary their ingredients and combinations.

If you do decide to use a weight loss aid, it would be prudent to purchase supplements from a reliable source. You may consult your local health food store to determine which brands and manufacturers are recommended, versus which ones are not as reputable.

Diet coupled with exercise has scientifically been shown to be a proven way to lose weight. Some physicians even say that diet and exercise is the only healthy way to lose the extra pounds. Other physicians do permit their patients to supplement their diets with safe weight loss aids like green teas.

Can weight loss aids truly help people to lose weight? They have helped some people to lose weight, while having virtually no effect on others. It is difficult to answer this question since there is no scientific evidence to back up an answer. Be sure to use caution when purchasing weight loss aids, and always seek your doctor’s advice regarding any supplement program.

A lot of cooks see kale in the grocery store and leave it in favor of another vegetable because they do not know exactly what it is or how to best prepare and cook it. You might like to try a kale soup recipe, a kale salad recipes or a kale stew first of all. Kale can be eaten raw or cooked.

Before the 1600s, kale was the most common green vegetable but it has been around since long before then. There is evidence of kale cultivation going right back to the fourth century BC in Greece. Have you ever been away for a few days and returned home to find a pile of soggy, brown mush in your refrigerator, which were green vegetables a few days earlier? Kale freezes well so if you do not want to use it immediately you will not have this problem. It actually tastes sweeter after being exposed to a frost. Kale is often combined with ground or sliced meat, such as ground beef or spicy sausage, in Europe. It is usually combined with broth, olive oil, and potatoes to complement the meat. If you want to stir fry kale, add some Japanese shiitake mushrooms to the mixture. Remove the stems of the kale and cut the leaves into large parts. When these ingredients are tender, add the kale and season with pepper, soy sauce, and sesame oil and you will have a delicious, healthy meal within minutes, which is great served with some noodles or rice.
