Owning a website on the Internet can be quite exciting but I’m sure that you would like to get more traffic to one if you happen to own one. Most people that are interested in getting more traffic really don’t understand that there are some secrets that can be used which will get them additional traffic for free. As a matter of fact, it can open up so much traffic to you that it can launch and make you successful in the same day.

The traffic that I am talking about is coming from the search engines, such as Google and Yahoo and they can send you free traffic all day long. The people that are coming from the search engines are going to either read the things that you have had to say on your website or if you have something to offer for sale, they might be interested in purchasing it. In order to get this traffic, you need to do some keyword research ahead of time. Why is that?

The reason that this is the case is because people are on the Internet and they are looking for something that is very specific in almost every case. The way that they do this is by typing in keywords or keyword phrases into the search engines and then looking at the results that they find. Whenever they click on a link, the person that owns that link has an opportunity to make a sale. That is why you want to be at the top of the search engine results for very specific keyword phrases.

The majority of webmasters that I talk to don’t spend near enough time doing this type of keyword research and for the most part, they simply guess at what they should be doing. Every once in awhile they may find some success in doing it this way but what you really need is very specific information that can show you an exact phrase that people are searching for so that you can use these on your own webpages. Doing this will give you an opportunity of being near the top of the search engines whenever somebody runs a search.

There are different ways that people use in order to find these keywords but one of them that tends to be a bit more convenient is using one of the tools that are available. Some of these are going to give you some very basic information about keywords but others are going to be more specific with the data they provide and can make your search engine marketing very effective.

For example, some of the more popular keyword tools are going to give you information about competition, both the number of websites that you will be competing against and how well those that are on the first page of the search engines are doing. This information is invaluable and although you would be able to look for it yourself manually, using a tool in order to do so can save you a lot of time.

Not only should you have one of these keyword tools available to you, this is something that you should be doing every single day. If you’re only going to work on your business half way, you can only expect to have halfway results but by using one of these tools, you can push your business forward.

This traffic comes from the search engines and is an excellent way for you to be able to get free people to your website that will either read what you have to say or buy what you have to offer. Being listed on the search engines, however, requires that you do a little bit of keyword research in advance. Why is that the case?

The reason why this is true is because most people were looking on the Internet for something that is very specific. They do this on the search engines by typing in keywords or keyword phrases and then they click on the link in order to follow it through to the website. If you happen to be that website that they are following, you stand a good chance of making a sale if you’re offering what it is that they are looking for.

Most webmasters tend to fall short in this regard, however, simply because they are guessing at what keywords are being used. You may be able to hit it every once in awhile but for the most part, you need specific data that is going to show you the exact words and phrases that are being used on a frequent basis so that you can include these on your website. When you do so, you stand a better chance of ranking toward the top of the search engine result pages.

Although there are a number of different ways for you to find these keywords, one of the more convenient ways is by using a keyword tool. There are several of these that are available on the market, some of which will only show you the keywords that are being used and others that will give you additional data that you can use in your search engine marketing efforts.

For example, some of the more popular keyword tools are going to give you information about competition, both the number of websites that you will be competing against and how well those that are on the first page of the search engines are doing. This information is invaluable and although you would be able to look for it yourself manually, using a tool in order to do so can save you a lot of time.

I can’t stress enough how important it is for you to be using one of these keyword tools and to use it regularly in your marketing efforts. Don’t simply try to look for a lackluster results, make sure that you are going for the brass ring and try to get all of the traffic that you can.

Finding Keyword Phrases and Using Them

If you would like to have a great Internet business, you need to make sure the traffic is coming into your website regularly. If you have a website that does not have anybody who is visiting it, it is similar to having a store in your local town with no customers at all. A store like that would close very soon after it opened and you should probably expect similar results from your website.

If you want to get additional traffic into your website, something that needs to be done is that you should be concentrating on keyword research. It doesn’t really matter if you are writing things all the time on your website, if you are using random keywords, you are going to get random traffic. The Internet is built around the principle of looking for things that are very specific so you need to be as specific as possible with the keywords that you use.

Keywords can be found in a number of different locations and some of them are rather easy to use while others may be a little bit difficult. It has a lot to do with what you are eventually going to do once you have these keyword lists in your possession. Some of the more popular ways to find these keywords are listed below, make sure that you use them in order to prosper.

Of all of the different places to find these keywords, the Google external keyword tool is going to provide you with one of the most popular. They have recently enhanced this tool in order to provide additional information to webmasters. One of the best things about this tool is the fact that the data comes directly from the Google search engine so it is going to be extremely accurate.

An additional way of finding keywords that is similar to using the Google tool is to use the MSN tool. The real difference is, you’re going to have to have an advertising account with MSN in order to access the tool. It only cost you about five dollars in order to get to the inside and you will find something that is very useful. The numbers are a little bit lower than googles, simply because the search volume is lower on MSN but it is still very good data.

People have also been using Word tracker for a number of years in order to find keyword phrases. Word tracker gets its data from a number of different meta search engines and although it is somewhat accurate, there are some flaws in the system. You can make a considerable amount of money by using this data but you are better off using one of the other tools that are available.

Once you have these keywords in your possession, you should begin using them in order to make money. They include them on the different webpages of your website and get plenty of links using them as the anchor text. In doing so, you will be able to have a successful Internet business.

SEO Tips, How to Improve Search Engine Optimization

July 26, 2009 · Filed Under Link Popularity · Comment

With search engines ranking as a top traffic driver for many blogs and content sites, optimizing a site for search engine exposure is an increasingly critical component of any online marketing effort.

SEO, or search engine optimization is the method of using both technical and not so technical techniques to insure that people that are interested in the things on your site, will be able to find it.

After getting some great tips from a few site managers I know and doing additional research online I was able to improve the SEO for my site. I was able to distill these tips into some basics that are important to any site that wants a larger share of search engine traffic.

Many sites just starting up would have to focus more than I do on getting incoming links, which is how Google ranks sites (more inbound links = more authority).

Also, it’s important that in seeking increased traffic, you don’t go overboard with SEO-motivated site changes: if you create dummy pages and links just to increase your site’s exposure for a particular keyword, Google will catch on and lower your ranking.

With these simple caveats in mind, here are a few SEO tips to consider.

Make sure you link out in addition to getting inbound links. Google does use the number of inbound links to your sites’ pages, but it does give more weight if the links are coming from authority sites.

Be sure to put keywords at the front of title tags and headlines. When you are planning the SEO for your site, think about the keywords that are most important and think about the keywords that will be used by people searching in Google for what’s on your site.

Search engines tend to put more weight on keywords earlier in the page title. One fallout of having these keyword-filled headlines is that you can’t be as creative as tabloid newspapers can be.

Web addresses for any articles or blog posts should include keywords. It is also important that the URL for each article contains the keywords used in your headline and even the category for the article.

Page descriptions should be eliminated if they are not unique. If you simply insert the pages first sentence or use the exact same Meta description on every page, it’s not even as relevant as the description that Google can easily pull from the site. If your Meta description is the same on every page you are better off without it.

5. Highlight your best content on every page. One feature that is common on major news sites is a list of “Most Popular Stories” or “Most Emailed Stories.” Having that list in a prominent place on your site, on all pages, would bring more traffic (and inbound links) to your site’s best content, and serve as an entree into the site for people who just came to read one post.

Many readers will leave the site after reading only one they read the post they came for, but if you make it easy for them to find your very best work then they might stick around and read more or may even subscribe to your blog feed if they find your content compelling enough.

Limit tags and categories to the most important ones. Highlight only the most important categories and put the rest on another page. Too many tags causes there to be links that aren’t very useful. It’s better to limit tags to the most important keywords.

Make sure that you create a Google News sitemap and that you optimize all the images. Publishers should submit special sitemaps to the search engines that are used to properly index the pages of your site. A sitemap is a dynamic XML file that the search engine spiders use to index the content on your site.
